Unicode includes the four common note shapes (quarter ♩, eighth ♪, beamed ♫ ♬), the accidentals (♭ flat, ♮ natural, ♯ sharp), the treble and bass clefs as 𝄞 𝄢, and the full musical-instrument emoji set 🎵 🎶 🎼 🎷 🎸. Useful for any kind of music-related content where you want a visual cue without breaking the line of text.

How to use music symbols

Click any symbol to copy. The most universal note glyphs are ♪ (single eighth) and ♬ (beamed pair) — they render reliably across every platform. Use them around song titles in playlist captions (♪ now playing: song name ♪) or after lyrics in social posts. Clefs 𝄞 𝄢 work in modern fonts on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows 10+; older systems may show boxes — when in doubt, fall back to ♩ ♪ ♫. The sharp ♯ and flat ♭ are also useful in non-musical contexts: C♯ as a programming language, B♭ as a key signature in a song title.

Compatibility notes

This collection uses plain Unicode text, so the symbols work in most modern apps. Rare or decorative characters can look different across devices or appear as boxes on older fonts. For maximum compatibility, test the symbol on mobile before using it in a permanent username or profile.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the treble clef 𝄞 show as a box?
The musical-symbols Unicode block (U+1D100–U+1D1FF) is outside the Basic Multilingual Plane and requires fonts that explicitly include musical glyphs. Most modern systems support it (iOS 13+, recent Android, Windows 10+ with Segoe UI Symbol). Older devices fall back to a missing-glyph box. The fallback is to use ♩ ♪ ♫ instead, which are in the BMP and supported everywhere.
How do I type a sharp ♯ that isn't autocorrected to hashtag #?
Many keyboards autocorrect ♯ to # because # is far more common. To preserve ♯, paste from this page or use your system's emoji/symbol picker. On macOS, also accessible via the Character Viewer (Ctrl+Cmd+Space). The two characters look similar but have different Unicode code points — ♯ is U+266F (Music Sharp Sign), # is U+0023 (Number Sign).
Are there guitar tab symbols in Unicode?
Unicode doesn't have dedicated guitar tablature glyphs. Tabs are conventionally written using ASCII numbers and dashes (e.g., 'e|--3--2--0--'), with the music staff drawn using the pipe character |. For tablature in social media posts, plain ASCII remains the standard.
